In the initial session we will discuss your past history and current difficulties and agree on the main issues that you would like therapy to focus on. We set goals for treatment that we will work towards during the sessions. In case you require another type of intervention I will discuss this with you and support the onwards referral.
Cognitive behaviour therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy is a ‘talking therapy’ that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think, feel and behave. It’s recommended by NICE guidelines and it is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems. To read more;
Mindfulness based cognitive therapy
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is a psychological therapy designed to aid in preventing the relapse of depression, specifically in individuals with Major depressive disorder and recurrent depression. It uses traditional Cognitive behavioral therapy methods and adds in newer psychological strategies such as mindfulness and mindfulness meditation. The Mindfulness approach focuses on becoming aware of incoming thoughts and feelings and accepting them, but not attaching or reacting to them.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a specific type of treatment developed to treat Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder following traumas arising from experiences as diverse as war related experiences, childhood sexual and/or physical abuse or neglect, natural disaster, assault, surgical trauma, road traffic accidents and workplace accidents. Systemic couple therapy
Systemic couple therapy focuses on difficulties that are affecting the couple and often leading to symptoms in one or both of the partners. In the couple sessions the focus is on improving communication within the couple to alleviate the symptoms.
